Dear Clintwood Baptist Church family,

Pastor Bryant Owens
After four weeks of serving in the role of pastor, I am excited to watch God orchestrating each day.
He is sovereign.

The concept of sovereignty is difficult for many of us to grasp. Scripture begins with the truth of God.
“In the beginning, God …” Understanding sovereignty requires that we start in the beginning.
Before there was a beginning, God was.
He is sovereign.

We would have no beginning ourselves without God. He grants all life, all breath, and our very existence.
He is sovereign.

Too often, we get wrapped up in ourselves forgetting that someone other is in control. The result is worry
and stress because we do not know what is happening.
God our Father is sovereign.

As we continue studying the Gospel of Mark on Sunday mornings and the book of Exodus on Sunday
nights, the concept of sovereignty is strong. Jesus is portrayed as establishing himself as the Son of God
and Son of Man with full authority and the same sovereignty over creation as his Father in heaven.
The tension between Jesus and the religious leaders of his day focused on sovereignty.
Jesus is sovereign.

The exodus story is one of God calling out his people to be a light reflecting his glory. His sovereignty over all his creation, both in heaven and on earth,
is plain in Exodus. His words to Moses in Exodus 10 point to the reason for the suffering of the children of Israel.
“…and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs
I have done among them, that you may know that I am the LORD.”

All Christians have stories to tell of how God walked with them through periods of suffering. It is in these times of doubt and fear that we come to understand
God’s sovereignty more.

Thank you LORD for being sovereign!

In HIS Grip,
Pastor Owens
